Where is Phuket?

Phuket is in the southern province of Thailand. The largest Thai island with 32 smaller islands off its shore exports rubber, tin, lumber, charcoal, and fish products to nearby Southeast Asian countries.

Nestled in the Andaman Sea, it was the ancient trading route between India and China. From then to now, as one of the major destinations for a beach vacation, Phuket attracts tourists worldwide.

The Weather

Phuket is closer to the equator and therefore does not show much variation in climate throughout the year. High-temperature averages at 32 C whereas low temperatures are recorded at 25 C.

Like all tropical monsoon places, it features two seasons — dry and rainy. The dry season is recorded from December to March and rains for the remaining eight months.

The hottest months are April to May and from September to October. The latter is also the wettest.

The best time to come to Phuket island is December to March. The humidity level is low, and the temperature averages between 24 C to 32 C.

Visa Rules for Phuket

Tourists visiting any place in Thailand, including Phuket, should have a visa that has a validity of 6 months past their stay in the country.

Also, most visitors are required to clear immigration either at Suvarnabhumi Airport at Bangkok or Phuket International Airport.

However, there is no need to apply for a visa if you are from a country exempted from it and do not intend to stay for more than 30 days.

How to reach Phuket?

International travelers can take flights to Phuket or Bangkok. They can take tickets for either Suvarnabhumi or Phuket International Airport.

Suvarnabhumi airport is in Bangkok and is the largest airport in Thailand. Phuket International Airport is the second busy airport after Suvarnabhumi and is located in Phuket. It has two terminals. Terminal 1 caters to international flights, whereas Terminal 2 is for domestic passengers.

Depending on the flight availability from a traveler’s country, check out any one of the two. Connected with daily flights to Bangkok, reaching Phuket isn’t difficult if you decide to land in the capital city.

Other than the flights, Phuket has good road connectivity.

However, there are no direct trains for Phuket. But you can hop on a train from Bangkok to Singapore and deboard it at Phun Phin railway station. Phuket is only 5 hours away by road.

Where to stay? How much money do you need?

Depending on your budget and preference, you should be able to find a good stay in Phuket as there is something for everyone.

The table below is break down of the right place for the people mentioned alongside.

Ideal Place — Who should stay here? — Why

North and South Phuket — Families — A comfortable city life with shops and restaurants

Central Phuket — Singles — Party hub of Phuket

Couples or Honeymooners — Karon and Kata beach — Quiet, yet not far away from the city.

History lovers — Old Phuket town — Sino-Portuguese architecture, boutique shops, beautiful cafes

Luxurious living — Bang Tao Beach — High-end villas, get everything without stepping out at hand.

Please note every location comes with a price. So, you may have to shell out more for a private, luxurious place than a more common area in North Phuket.

Generally speaking, an adult would need $100-$150 for a day in Phuket. With this, they can manage a decent living and travel around. Get an idea from below:

Meals

$5 — $10 and may go up to $100 (approx. $19)

Drinks

$2 — $3 and beyond

Local Transportation

$10

A Decent Hotel

$52 (hostel for one person)

$110 (double occupancy room)

Again, the money a person would need to stay depends on the activities he chooses to indulge in, be it shopping, eating, travelling, etc. But all said and done, it is more economical than most European countries.
